Matcha mania continues in the Richmond with a new matcha and tea cafe. Constance claims to be the first and only cafe in the SF Bay Area to freshly grind tencha leaves on-site. We got a closer look this past Monday during the soft opening.

Constance is a unique operation equipped with an automated matcha brewing machine to precisely mix, whisk, and dispense perfect matcha and tea shots. This machine is situated alongside a commercial-grade stone mill. Tencha is fed through the metal funnel at the top and is ground down to produce fresh, green matcha powder.

Fun Fact: Tencha is green tea that has been shaded from the sun before harvest. This boosts chlorophyll and gives an intense green color.

The menu consists of a variety of freshly milled matcha drinks that are lightly sweetened with organic cane sugar. There are also stone-ground teas featuring matcha and hojicha drinks and freshly ground tea drinks pulled to order. Einspanners are available for a little more decadence. We selected the matcha latte and the hojicha latte. Both were smooth and delicious.

Current soft opening hours are 8 to 4 every day except Tuesdays. Come check them out if you want to elevate your matcha experience.
