While walking in Laurel Heights recently, I discovered new signage on the former Royal Grounds location at 3101 Geary. After confirming it still looked like a coffee shop through the window, I decided to stop in to check it out. The owner told me she was a former employee of the Royal Grounds cafe and had recently reopened the business under a new name.

The interior is painted with the sky-blue color of the forget-me-not flower. Forget-me-nots are seen throughout the shop, painted on the walls, in framed pictures, on coffee mugs, and even along the back wall shelving of the service bar. The redecoration was clearly done with love and has so much charm. Inside I felt the nostalgia of a ‘90s coffee shop with a warm, cozy atmosphere and plush, eclectic furnishings. There is even an inviting back reading room with a sofa.

From memory, it seems the menu has stayed pretty faithful to that of the previous business. There are deli sandwiches and breakfast sandwiches. The coffee is reasonably priced in comparison to recently opened shops in the broader area. Forget Me Not successfully breathes new life into this stretch of Geary. Bring your book or get some work done surrounded by the flowers.
