If you want to see a live basketball game without blowing your rent on Warriors tickets, SF Parks and Rec has you covered. The Pro Am Basketball League at Kezar Pavilion has featured elite college players and major NBA talent throught its history. The best part is that admission is completely free.
Founded in 1979 by Jon Greenberg, the San Francisco Pro-Am has spent over four decades serving as a summer proving ground for local hoopers and a gift to Bay Area basketball fans. Kezar Pavilion’s court has had many legendary performances. NBA superstars including Jason Kidd, Gary Payton, Aaron Gordon, and Steph Curry have participated in the league.

If you haven’t been, Kezar Pavilion is located at 755 Stanyan Street next to Kezar Stadium. I attended the June 18th match between East Bay and Bay Pride. It was refreshing to just walk right through the door without scanning a ticket or going through a metal detector. I just walked right in and grabbed a spot courtside. I was personally unfamiliar with any of the players, but the play was high level and competitive.
Games are scheduled throughout the summer. You can find the full schedule, team rosters, and results on the league’s website.

Pro tip: Hang out in the neighborhood beforehand. Play some pinball at Free Gold Watch nearby, then grab some drinks and snacks to bring in from Parkview Market at Frederick and Stanyan.
