For several weeks, we have been eagerly watching the activity at the corner commercial space on Clement and Arguello. What used to be Village Pizza has been undergoing a major makeover with signs posted teasing the debut of Rose Pizzeria, a beloved pizzeria from Berkeley
Rose Pizzeria was founded in 2021 on University Avenue in Berkeley. The restaurant found success in the community and even earned national accolades such as being named one of the 22 best pizza restaurants in the United States by the New York Times in 2024.
The interior of the restaurant is warm and inviting with a charming checkerboard floor and a large landscape mural at the back.

For now, the signage mentions no slices; however, takeout is available. Reservations are open, and the menu offers a handful of starters, nine different 14-inch pizzas, tiramisu, gelato, and sorbetto for dessert. For drinks, the restaurant offers a selection of beer, wine by the glass, and soft drinks. We ordered the Spicy Caesar salad with miso, Calabrian chili dressing, breadcrumbs, and pecorino. I love anything with Calabrian chili, and this was excellent. For the pie, we opted for the Pepp & Basil, a pepperoni, mozzarella, tomato sauce, fresh basil, and pecorino pizza.

The thin-crust pizza was satisfyingly chewy with fresh-tasting toppings. My only critique would be that I would love to have more tomato sauce so each bite is equal in that robust flavor. We saw a couple of white sauce pies on the menu that we will be trying in the near future.
From national recognition to a fresh makeover on the corner of Clement and Arguello, Rose Pizzeria is already making a strong impression with its charming interior and adventurous flavor profiles.
