Good morning readers! Welcome to The Fogline, a newsletter created to share our love for the city we live in and to promote community connection. We aim to give you the scoop on neighborhood events, tasty new pop-ups and restaurants, and spots to gather, play, shop, and enjoy this beautiful city we share. We also plan to feature long-form, data-driven stories about San Francisco and the Bay Area.

The Best Bus In The SF Muniverse

The most versatile bus in SF in terms of experiencing a large number of neighborhood institutions is good the ol’ 33 Ashbury / 18th Street, a true lifeline for the car-free Clipper carrier. The 33 can take you to the Richmond District, the Stanyan Street entrance to Golden Gate Park, Amoeba Records and Club Deluxe (soon to reopen!) on Haight. Keep your seat and you can hit up Cliff’s Variety and Castro Theatre, Mission Dolores Park, the CCSF Mission Campus, and The Great Northern for live music. Do you like nature in the city? The 33 will take you within stepping distance of Tank Hill.

The 33 takes a hairpin turn at the intersection of Market Street and Clayton, offering a spectacular view of the downtown skyline. This turn feels wild in a 40-foot bus and even requires its own traffic signal just for the maneuver.

The Sound Pour At The Faight Collective

The Faight is a community-focused venue that hosts musicians, artists, and community organizers, supporting their creative growth and development. Events at The Faight range from art gallery shows and private parties to yoga classes, team-building events, and musical performances. Some fun events we found on the calendar include Date My Friend, where participants make the case for their single friends with a formalized ‘pitch’ in front of prospective dates, and the Bad Art Club, where everyone gets to be an artist and create without judgment. They will also host the incredibly popular Big Brain SF on January 14, with a talk from a magician and cognitive scientist.

Every Wednesday, The Faight in the Lower Haight hosts The Sound Pour, an event featuring local jazz and natural wine from massanois.com.

There are several ticket options available:

  • General admission: $12.51

  • Admission plus wine tastings: $28.52

  • Two tickets and a bottle of wine: $55.20

  • Four tickets and a bottle of wine: $71.21

  • The Date Night special: two tickets, a bottle of wine, flowers, and a reserved table $108.55

We attended the January 7 show with a jazz performance by Farallon, and opted for the wine tasting to sample the natural wines on offer. The venue is spacious and decorated with cozy couches, warm lighting, and larger tables for groups, giving it a comfortable, living room-like feel within the space. The band consisted of a keyboardist, a bassist, and a drummer who performed slow jams throughout the evening.

The Faight, 473A Haight Street

The Faight features works by local artists. This evening we viewed works for sale by Olly Thompson, Jessica O’Brien, and Alex Funk.
